Foster's performance reinforces bullishness

Article Abstract:

Foster's Brewing Group Ltd has continued to report a healthy growth in annual profits that its share prices have considerably appreciated. The brewer and wine maker reported a 33% increase in profits from the previous year to Australian $364.8 million after tax for the FY ended Jun 30 1999. Its expansion activities have also been commendable despite a few failures. One analyst projects that Foster will most probably outperform the market between Sep 1999 through Aug 2000.

Southcorp hopes Aegis will shield world oenophiles from cork taint

Article Abstract:

Southcorp Holdings Ltd. hopes that its cork replacement will be commercially viable. The winemaker is marketing the new cork under the brand 'Aegis' and is hopeful that the polyethylene replacement will gain a substantial market share in the A$350 million per year market. The company claims that the new cork reduces the possibility of cork taint and that the replacement is cheaper at 8 cents per piece compared with high grade cork selling at 12 cents each.

Foster's plan to acquire Mildara Blass sparks interest in Australian wine stocks

Article Abstract:

Foster's Brewing Group has offered to acquire Mildara Blass for $359 million or 16.5 times more than the company's estimated worth in FY 1995. Foster's plan spurred strong investment interest in Australian wine stocks. Although the acquisition fell through, Foster's expected to try other acquisitions in 1996. The most likely targets include BRL Hardy, Orlando Wyndham Group and Penfolds.
