Internet service faces tangled Chinese Web

Article Abstract:

Online publication of anti-Western propagandas has considerably increased in China, following the tragic bombing of the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade in May 1999. Reports revealed that Chinese news agencies and online service providers have recently been sensitive to sovereignty and human rights issues, particularly those involving US and NATO policies. Some news agencies have even claimed that the Belgrade bombing was an intentional assault by NATO officials.

U.S. indicates sanctions against China are possible over continued piracy

Article Abstract:

The issue of trademark and copyright infringement has prompted US officials to again raise the threat of economic sanctions against China. It has been little over a year since the two countries averted a trade war by signing a landmark intellectual property rights accord. US officials contend that the Chinese government has not done enough to enforce the agreement's provisions on the protection of trademarks and copyrights.

U.S. comments fuel concern among officials in Taipei

Article Abstract:

Taiwanese officials are concerned that the strained relations between the US and China may lead to the US sacrificing Taiwanese interests in favor of peace with China. Recent comments by US officials have implied that Taiwan is a province of China and does not deserve independence. China's growing economy also serve as another inducement for the US to grant concessions to China, which may, in turn, jeopardize Taiwan.
