France: The market of hair styling products

Article Abstract:

Boosted by the introduction of new products and new players, the market of hair styling products through super and hypermarkets is doing fine in France. Gel sales reached 19.3mn units in the year to 26 August 2001, up 25.5% from the same year-earlier period. Foams did not perform so well with 6.2mn units, up 1.8% while the market of hair spray and other products declined by 1.9% with 34.4mn units during the same period. The 14% increase in advertising expenses (following almost EUR 49mn spent in 2000) also shows the good situation in the hair styling market.

FRANCE: CHILDRENS HAIR PRODUCTS MARKET

Carrefour recently launched a magic hair spray product for unmanageable hair, for kids, in its own brand label, as it believes the interest still remains for this market. With still a low market penetration, it is not sure if this market will last or if it is just short term. Already on this kids hair products market is P'tit Dop (La Scad) with its anti-knotting spray, and Corine de Farme for Kid's, with a strong hair gel in a pot for boys and a spray for girls.

FRANCE: NEW TIMOTEI CONDITIONER FROM ELIDA FABERGE

Elida Faberge has launched a Timotei conditioner which needs no rinsing, in a spray bottle which is very easy to use. It is water based, with a moisturiser and citrus extract, and contains no oil.
