AUSTRIA: VA TECH TO GIVE UP WATER TECHNOLOGY

Article Abstract:

VA Tech , which is to concentrate on its core businesses, is to look for a partner for the water technology division Wabag Wassertechnik, which is involved in the building and operation of water, sewage and waste-water treatment plant. The latter company that generates an annual turnover of about EUR 250mn was acquired by VA Tech in 1999. The outsourcing of water services by the paper and other industries is seen to offer great potential for Wabag.

AUSTRIA: LESS PUBLIC MONEY FOR SEWERAGE

Article Abstract:

The draft for the amendment to the law on environmental subsidies in Austria involves the reduction of public spending on sewage treatment projects. Sch 3.5bn has been earmarked for the construction of sewage pipes and treatment plants in 2001 and Sch 3bn in 2002, compared with Sch 4.9bn in 1999. 82% of Austria's households are connected to water supply and sewerage networks, while the European Union's target is a rate of 92%.

VIETNAM: AUSTRIANS IN HANOI SEWERAGE PROJECT

Article Abstract:

According to an agreement signed with the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance, Bank Austria is providing more than Sch 400mn for the West Lake Hanoi wastewater treatment project. Austrian suppliers are participating in the project.
