France prepares to unload stake in Credit Lyonnais

French government considers selling stake in Credit Lyonnais as part of privatization plans and consolidation of French banking industry. Banque Nationale de Paris has expressed interest in Credit Lyonnais, but Credit Lyonnais's chairman Jean Peyrelevade is opposed to cooperation with other commercial banks.

Air France nears formal timetable for privatization

Air France has hinted that the French government, which owns a minority stake in the company, is set to announce a timeframe for the partial privatisation of firm. The airline hopes that the decision will help it become a formidable competitor in the recently deregulated European air travel industry.
