GERMANY: FAZ CHALLENGING SUDDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG

Article Abstract:

The German business daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (F.A.Z.) is expanding activities in southern Germany, where Suddeutsche Zeitung is the leading daily. From 2001 the F.A.Z. will be printed also in Maisach near Munich beside Frankfurt and Potsdam. Thus the paper will be able to provide news faster to southern German readers. The subsidiary FAZ Electronic Media GmbH, which was awarded a satellite radio licence for the whole of Germany on 31 October 2000, wants to take over the Munich-based radio station Relax FM 92.4 and develop it into an info-radio station. FAZ Business Radio is to concentrate mainly on business, stock and market news but report also on political and regional topics. Beside using the Eutelsat Hot Bird 5 satellite, FAZ Business Radio will launch terrestrial transmission in Berlin and is planning the same in other cities and conurbations in Germany.
