GM tripled pay, bonuses, incentives of its chairman

John F. Smith Jr., the chairman and chief executive of General Motors Corp. (GM). was paid $12 million in salary, incentives, and bonuses for the 1999 year. The amount is the largest that GM has ever given to an executive.

Chrysler remuneration will top German pay

Article Abstract:

Chrysler Corp.'s management are expected to receive higher compensation than their counterparts from Daimler-Benz AG when the merger between the two car manufacturers is consummated, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The filing, which reveals that the merged company will adopt two compensation schemes, also highlights the difficult predicament faced by the two firms to effect a smooth transition. Eckhard Zanger, a spokesperson for Daimler-Benz, maintains that the car firm has plans to adopt a uniform pay scale in the future.

GM Doesn't Plan to Lift North American Capacity
