Gap between rich and poor countries begs for attention: donors must ensure aid is utilized effectively with accountability, economist says

Article Abstract:

The distance between wealthy and developing countries has become wider after the spate of financial crises that hit the latter. These events have changed the perspectives of rich countries on the extension of foreign economic aid to developing countries. According to Richard Carey, deputy director at the Development Cooperation Directorate at the Organization for Economic Cooperation for Economic Cooperation and Development, the primary concerns of financing agencies and countries are a conducive political and social environment and the financial integrity of recipient countries.

Asia must share swap its way to global deal makers club

Article Abstract:

Asian corporate-governance reforms have drawn criticism from the business community due to the slow reception received in the marketplace, an overabundance of reforms, and an aversion to the United States origins of the reforms. In order to compete in the international marketplace, Asian corporations must plan larger acquisitions, but European and U.S. companies are not willing to accept share swap deals from Asian companies yet.

'Business must go on.'(limited cutbacks in travel following events of September 11, 2001)

Article Abstract:

Most executives of Asian multinational companies are not dramatically cutting back on travel following the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. The few cutbacks are mainly related to the slowing of the economy that was taking place before the attacks. Trips to the United States are being limited more than to other areas of the world.
