Gateway to the Millennium takes shape in Greenwich

Article Abstract:

Architects Alsop and Stormer, and civil engineers Benaim Works, are working on an underground railway station for the Jubilee Line Extension in London, England. The station will be light, airy and visually enjoyable for the ordinary commuter, and for visitors to the Millennium Exhibition. The North Greenwich station, which will open officially in Sep 1998, was designed as an open site with a cover. The construction material is concrete, and the use of a uniform volume, encompassing platforms and concourse, facilitates movement clarity for users, and contributes to the feeling of openness.
