Getting it together

Article Abstract:

French employees working in Geneva and Swiss citizens working in Vaud may soon find themselves taxed more than usual. The Swiss government is seeking to exact more taxes from high-salaried workers from Vaud, France that cross the border to work in Geneva, Switzerland. The Federal Tribunal of Switzerland has been reviewing the proposed tax policy. Another method for easing tax collection could be to merge the cantons of Geneva and Vaud. This move has been considered as unacceptable by French workers. Vaud is a canton of Switzerland.

Medieval trade route goes modern

Article Abstract:

Basel, Switzerland's principal shopping area is Freie Strasse where a wide array of products are sold on retail and shopping becomes simultaneously a tour of the past through the many medieval structures that surround it. The place was named after its tax-free status during the medieval era. Despite the economically difficult times, it remains as busy as ever and the city government is planning to restore and repair old buildings to make it even more attractive to foreign tourists.

Crossing to France for bargains

Article Abstract:

Discounted prices, wider selections on available products, longer shopping hours and more parking spaces are motivating the Swiss to do their shopping in France. Dairy products such as milk, cheese, butter and eggs are marked at half or even less than half the retail price in Switzerland. The French stores have also been upgraded and offer more shopping convenience with the presence of information desks and money-changing facilities.
