Glaxo claims in suit its patent applications in U.S. are at risk

Article Abstract:

UK pharmaceutical firm GlaxoSmithKline PLC has filed a lawsuit against the US patent and Trademark Office regarding new rules that may have a negative impact on approximately 100 of Glaxo's pending patent applications. The rules place restrictions on filing more than two continuing applications; Glaxo officials contend this will make obtaining patent protection more expensive.

New York Attorney General accuses Glaxo of fraud: company accused of hiding data on Paxil's efficacy in treating depressed kids

Article Abstract:

Eliot Spitzer, New York Attorney General, has filed a lawsuit against UK pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline PLC for concealing safety and efficacy problems regarding the use of Paxil for treating depression in children. The suit focuses on unpublished data that allegedly shows Paxil in some cases was no more effective than a placebo, or even prompted suicidal behavior.

Merck's victory in Vioxx lawsuit lifts its prospects

Article Abstract:

Merck and Company Inc. of the United States has won in litigation over side effects of it's product Vioxx, which could strengthen the pharmaceutical companies position in further liability cases. The case concerned an Idaho man who suffered a heart attack while taking the medication. The pharmaceutical company recalled the analgesic Vioxx a year ago.
