Switzerland's private banking tradition has helped turn the country into one of the world's leading centers for high finance. These tradition has also helped cities such as Zurich and Geneva to become favored locations for the portfolio management operations of foreign banks. As a result, some 40 foreign banks now have their operations headquartered in Geneva while 78 other foreign banks have headquarters in Zurich. Among the leading foreign banks in Switzerland are Banque Paribas, Banca della Svizerra Italiana and Republic New York Bank.
