Handover may help ideals penetrate deep into China

Article Abstract:

Hong Kong's handover to China is inevitable due to geopolitical and social considerations. The UK is justified in negotiating for the return of the colony back to China on several grounds: that of maintaining regional security, that of maintaining the economic integrity of the colony, the reassurances of China in maintaining the colony's political, economic and social autonomy and the dependence of China on the colony for its plans in the international marketplace. The best incentive for handing over Hong Kong back to China is the potential of the colony to teach the mainland of the benefits of democracy on the economy.

Will New Zealand vote against prosperity?

Article Abstract:

The loss of New Zealand's current administration in the Oct. 12, 1996, elections will adversely affect the economic recovery of the country. The victory of any of the three leftist party candidates is expected to lead to increased taxes and government spending and the stemming of privatization and debt repayment efforts. Furthermore, the new electoral system promotes the increased presence of political parties that are against market policies.
