Healthy markets for wood will help prevent deforestation

Article Abstract:

The major causes of deforestation are identified as poverty, population pressures and shifting agriculture, and a survey explains that healthy markets for wood products would actually help to prevent deforestation, encouraging those countries to follow carefully monitored forest management. It is relatively simple economics, as boycotts might only serve to decrease the value of the land, thus endangering the future of those very same forests that could be a nation's economic savior.

The rhythm of life

Article Abstract:

Claire Russ, director of a theatre dance company founded LIVESpace to create dance pieces for construction projects, as she saw a connection between architecture and human form. She envisions a process whereby designers work with dancers, film their movements, look for repeated patterns, then create 3D models so that, in a sense, building can start to mould to the human form, as she feels that human body is the perfect architecture.

Ollie Alsop and the Squint/Opera story

Article Abstract:

Ollie Alsop has emerged from his father's shadow to found Squint/Opera, an Archigram-influenced film making company, with Alice Scott and Julius Cocke. The company shuns suggest that Squint is a thinly disguised inhouse PR wing or, worse still, a buch of disaffected wannables indulged by a rich bene-factor.
