Hong Kong's opposition to landfill expansion is growing: architects, travel association among those who protest reclamation project in Central District

Article Abstract:

The Hong Kong government has been besieged with complaints from civic, environmental and trade groups over its plans to reclaim additional acreage from Victoria Harbor. The Hong Kong Institute of Architects and the Pacific Asia Travel Association are the frontliners in the fight against the reclamation project, which will reclaim another 2,964 acres from the harbor for Super Grade A office space construction. A survey at Hong Kong University showed 69% of the students opposing the reclamation project. Victoria Harbor has been reduced to half of its original width due to reclamation and the initial stage of the reclamation project will claim 94 hectares from the harbor.
