How to save the ultimate penalty: the government is trying to address the problem of too few company rescues. In April, it issued revised proposals aimed at overcoming the main barriers to the use of company voluntary arrangements

Article Abstract:

A company voluntary arrangement (CVA) means that credictors will accept a reduced sum in settlement of amounts due, or payments may be rescheduled. A CVA is a private arrangement but is contained within the insolvency legislation. There is a poor take up of the existing CVA procedure due to lack of information about the procedure and lack of protection from the action of creditors, whilst a proposals is drawn up. The government proposes a nominee who is licenses in insolvency practice will be availbel to directors of troubled companies to assit in drawing up a rescue plan.

Article Abstract:

England Football Team Manager Kevin Keegan points out traditionally in English football failure is blamed on the manager, rather than the chairman or the players. He admits he would like to run run a theme park if he was not involved in football. Keegan suggests being in charge of a football team has many similarities with running a business. He points out many football clubs are business which have to pay dividends to shareholders and show a profit. Keegan also works as a television commentator and gives after-dinner speeches.

Small company, big vision

Article Abstract:

Videoconferencing has been used for some time by large companies, but latest technological developments and falling prices are now making it suitable for smaller companies too. It is now possible to achieve full collaborative working between systems from different manufacturers, and videoconferencing has been shown to make meetings more productive and save managers' time. The technology can give competitive advantage to even relatively modest operations.
