Selling: taking my big decision

Article Abstract:

Peter Lewis's decision to sell Bindermatics Group, where he was chairman, was not a long-held idea but one which arose from a mundane meeting with auditors Grant Thornton. Lewis was comparing Grant Thornton's audit fees with those of his firm's existing auditors when Grant Thornton partner Howard Hackney first put forward the idea of selling what he said was a successful and marketable firm. Grant Thorton corporate finance specialist Amin Amiri was honest about the trauma which would be involved in the process of selling the business.

Adding value, not taking away

Article Abstract:

Pizza Express has seen very strong growth recently, opening 20 new restaurants and establishing its first outlet abroad, according to chairman Luke Johnson. He devotes a third of his time to Pizza Express, and regards himself as an active investor and catalyst. He believes that the company has been successful because it has taken care to employ people who are friendly and because it has kept prices low. It is also very cautious when choosing sites.
