Hysteresis and export targeting

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the impact on exchange rate movements of export targeting conditions is presented. The analysis applies data from 359 4-digit US SIC industries and US export distribution and considers sunk cost variations in examining variations in industrial response. It is shown that a pattern of hysteresis is consistently observed. However, the pattern is limited in industries with substantial distribution and media coverage costs.
