INDIA DOING SPADEWORK FOR INTERNET-II

Article Abstract:

The information technology task force of the Government of India proposes to set up a high-speed data transfer network for preparing India for Internet-II. The network - Inter-University Net (IU Net) - will connect all the universities in India like in USA. The task force will have to build a network of optical fibre cables for offering the necessary infrastructure to Internet-II - a high speed, high capacity version of the existing Internet. A consortium of an Indian and US partner will be setting up the IU Net. The network software and the advanced technology applications will be supplied by the US promoter. IU Net will have a bandwidth of 2.5-10 gigabytes per second. It will have about 8-10 nodes initially. (ag)

IPCA LABORATORIES AFFECTED BY ALLEGED DUMPING OF ANTI-MALARIA DRUG IN INDIA

Article Abstract:

IPCA Laboratories is a leading manufacturer of anti-malaria drug in India. IPCA has been adversely affected by the alleged dumping of chloroquine. Its shareholding has been recently altered with Mr Amitabh Bachchan and family selling off their major portion of shares to the two managing directors of the company. For 1997-98, the company has posted a net profit of $4.8 million on sales of $74 million. (gs)
