RABO INDIA FIN ON THE PROWL FOR M & A DEALS

Article Abstract:

The Indian non-banking subsidiary of Rabobank of Netherlands - Rabo India Finance Pvt Ltd - plans to execute merger and acquisition deals and also play a role in healthcare business. The bank controls 90 percent of Holland's agri business banking. It is the only private bank to have an `AAA' rating from individual credit rating agencies. Other specialised areas of the bank include shipping, finance, leasing, factoring, venture capital, insurance and asset management. Rabo has adopted a specific strategy for India as the food and agri units do not need pure banking solutions, but financial solutions. Also, Indian rules permit only 20 percent foreign holding. Rabo India provides inputs to clients but does not fund farmers. An equity base of Rs105 crore is insufficient enough for the company to raise term bonds. (nr)
