India offers U.S. firms a chance to top Japan rivals
Article Abstract:
Media has focused attention on the large number of top US executives which accompanied US Commerce Sec. Ron Brown during his recent trip to India, saying that this was indicative of their confidence in the potential of the Indian market. What is less emphasized, however, is the fact that India presents US firms with the best opportunity to beat their Japanese competitors. US companies enjoy many natural advantages over the Japanese in the Indian market and they are expected to use these to the fullest.

APEC could hold the key to U.S.-Japan relations
Article Abstract:
The Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum may be advantageous to the trade relationship between the US and Japan since it obliges Japan to liberalize trade within the region as a member of the APEC. In addition, the existence of a regional organization minimizes the effects of concessions between the two economic leaders and makes it the market for Asian goods.
