Insurance company with close ties was Major Lernout & Hauspie investor

Article Abstract:

The article discusses how Mercator & Noordstar NV, a Belgian insurance firm with close connections to Lernout & Hauspie (L&H), owned 16 of the 30 startup companies that provided a large part of L&H's revenue in 1998 and 1999. The close ties appear to support the concerns of some L&H critics, who thought that the startup companies were secretly financed by parties related to L&H that that would benefit from an increase in the company's stock price.
