Investment banks expand

Article Abstract:

Four investment banks have been expanding and embarking on new deals in Asia amid the current financial crisis and a bear market in the region. Morgan Stanley Asia Ltd., Goldman Sachs Asia LLC, Merrill Lynch (Asia Pacific) Ltd., and Lehman Brothers Asia Ltd. are betting on their bullish regional prospects, seeing opportunities brought by the Asian economic turmoil. The four investment banks are offering complex products such as fixed-income derivatives, instead of the usual stock broking and new share issues. The four investment banks have global operations and deep pockets, with the money earned in the bull markets of Wall Street and Europe; and their size can influence in closing deals, compared to weaker regional banks.
