It's easy to see the need for a ban on blinding lasers

Article Abstract:

Leaders of nations around the world need to impose an international ban on lasers and laser weapons as tools for warfare because of their human, social and economic implications. Countries using laser weapons in warfare should realize that these tools violate basic humanitarian principles, even when they are used against an enemy. An effect more severe than disrupting the opponents' optical and electro-optical systems is the loss of sensory stimulation and eventually, permanent blindness.

Why organisations need humour

Article Abstract:

Spontaneous humour is an essential resource for organisations and can help managers manage change and people more effectively. Humour makes an organisation more responsive and helps bring down barriers between people. Humour strengthens trust and narrows the communication gulf between the leader and others. It also offers a low-risk way of introducing and debating new and even radical ideas.

Bulging overheads need value surgery

Article Abstract:

Most overhead costs can be concealed from top management since they exist under hundreds of expense items and can be layered over a huge number of account heads. Allocation procedures and interpretations differ greatly from firm to firm. The separate overhead items can be small, though together, they become large at between 30 and 70 percent of the firm's total costs.
