Direct professional access to barristers in the UK for members of other professions has brought a range of advantages. These include cost savings, as barristers are generally less expensive than solicitors, and the provision of a direct route to a vast expanse of barristerial experience. Direct professional access has been extremely successful in some areas. However, it is still rare for the construction professions to directly instruct the construction Bar.

Good witness covered the sofa but not the expense of litigation

Article Abstract:

The pitfalls of legal expenses insurance are discussed with reference to a case against an interior design firm. The insurance ran out in the middle of the trial leaving the claimants with few options, but to settle.

Issues are presented concerning the implications of the no win, no fee litigation for the legal profession. The lack of cost pressure on claimants negates their need to be realist in their claims for compensation.
