Star struck

Article Abstract:

Indonesia set up the Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA) which has emoved two Astra International executives. IBRA aims to sell a 45% stake in Astra, and is to use an open auction after a potential US buyer complained about lack of access to information on the company. The removal of the executives is to allow a better price to be obtained for the stocks. IBRA has stakes in a number of companies, acquired in rescue efforts during the financial crisis. The aim to to ensure that the assets are used productively as well as to raise funds from selling them.

German bank Commerzbank continues to be the subject of takeover rumours, with Italy's Unicredito being the latest talking point. Commerzbank is much smaller than its two main German rivals, and has a high cost-income ratio.

It's got to fit somehow

Article Abstract:

A merger between Credit Suisse and Winterthur would create a huge financial conglomerate, and the rationale is that such a firm meets all the needs of customers and makes more profits than each firm would separately. But in the past such agglomeration failed to create expected profit windfalls.
