Japanese agencies offer TV fans behind-the-scene perspectives

Article Abstract:

Nippon Travel Agency and Hawaii Movie Tours are profiting from the Japanese fascination with Hollywood by providing tours of television show and film settings and sets. Tours include those that are based on "The X-Files" and "Beverly Hills 90210," and to the sets of "Six Days, Seven Nights," "Godzilla," and "Dragonfly." According to the Japanese government, the number of Japanese people who travelled abroad increased 8.9% from 1999 to 2000.

Industry frets as Japan skimps on shrimp

Article Abstract:

Japan's shrimp consumption has been declining recently, much to the upset of numerous Southeast Asia shrimp farmers that have increased shrimp produciton in order to meet Japanese needs. Japan consumes per capita more shrimp than any country worlwide, but due to the weakening of the yen, many Japanese are not eating out. Farmers are now faced with what to do with the surplus of shrimp.

Japanese retirees purchase trips with your living room in mind

Long-stay vacations with host families in foreign countries are becoming popular among Japanese retirees, who have more free time and money to spend. Japanese travel agencies and organizations are heavily marketing these vacation packages, which are similar to exchange student programs and can range from three weeks to three months.
