Jefferson Smurfit eyes Europe

Article Abstract:

Packaging and paper company Jefferson Smurfit Group of Dublin, Ireland, is proceeding with a 452 million French Franc acquisition bid for independent corrugated packaging firm Papeteries de Limousine of France. Smurfit would subsequently be firmly positioned as Europe's industry leader. Smurfit already owns recycled mills in France and the packaging and paper company Cellulose du Pin of France. Smurfit is expected to seek further European acquisitions if it successfully acquires Papeteries de Limousine.

Bowater wraps up M&A internally

Article Abstract:

Bowater PLC of the UK, a paper and packaging company, has developed a highly regarded internal M&A team which has been working on transactions since 1987. Bowater recently acquired Celatose Industries SA of France which was a cross-border transaction handled by the team. The company also announced the merger of its Polysystems bsuiness with BlowMocan Ltd of the UK, and it completed the sale of its Australian Tissue operations to Carter Holt Harvey Ltd.

Luxottica sets eyes on US Shoe

Article Abstract:

Luxottica of Italy, a spectacles manufacturer, could be successful in its hostile bid for US Shoe, of North America, a retailer, which is making a loss on its women's clothing operations. The acquisition would include the LensCrafters optical goods chain which it is competing with, along with competition from Pervision in the US.
