Jet dreams are grounded; widespread consolidation hurts aerospace plans

Article Abstract:

The plans of several Asian countries to develop a home-grown aircraft manufacturing industry has been doused or delayed by the region's currency crisis, and by the plans of Boeing Co. to market its medium-sized jets in the region. Some of the Asian nations that have been developing their domestic aircraft industry are Indonesia, China and South Korea. Boeing plans to redesign and market McDonnell Douglas' 100-seat MD95 jet as the Boeing 717-200 regional jet.

Ayala Land plans to concentrate on housing next year: Philippine real-estate developer bets on middle- and high-income markets to be most resilient

Article Abstract:

Ayala Land Inc plans to launch two new high-end residential projects in Cebu province and in Metro Manila, Philippines in 1999. Another project, which will cater to the middle-income group, may also be launched in the latter part of the year. Ayala Land Pres Francisco Licuanan, III, is banking on the hope that the middle-income housing segment will recover from the regional financial crisis that has sent the real estate industry downhill in 1998.

Taiwanese developer Tan Yu dreams of turning tiny Philippine island into vacation boomtown

Article Abstract:

Taiwan-based developer Tan Yu has named a team to formulate plans for developing tiny Fuga Island in the Philippines into a $50 billion tourist destination. The team is led by Morristown, NJ-based RBA Group and includes New York City-based Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, San Francisco, CA-based SWA Group and UK-based engineering consultancy firm Mott-MacDonald Ltd.
