Jimenez's indictment in U.S. fuels questions in Manila; Estrada denies Florida businessman has an official role in the Philippines

Article Abstract:

Philippine Pres Joseph Estrada has denied the role of Mark Jimenez in the running of the Philippine government. Presidential spokesman Fernando Barican declared that the relationship between Estrada and Jimenez is a private one and news of Jimenez's growing influence on Estrada is exaggerated. No action will be taken by the government against Jimenez, who has been convicted of several counts of tax evasion, conspiracy, mail fraud and illegal campaign contributions to Bill Clinton, until the US demands his extradition.
