Joe vs. Stanley in beer share battle

Article Abstract:

Long-time rivals Molson Canada and Labatt Breweries have launched aggressive television advertising campaigns in their battle to dominate Canada's beer market. Labatt is continuing its 'Out of the Blue' campaign and has taken its Stanley Cup promotion, which was highly successful in Ontario in 1999, across English Canada. Molson has attracted national attention with its 'The Rant' TV spot for its flagship brand. A marketing executive believes that both brewers will eventually have to cull their secondary brands as their premium brands grow along with other, rival premium brands.

Labatt tops ASC list of complaints

Article Abstract:

The Labatt Blue "Shopping Cart" television advertisement generated the most complaints in the Canadian Code of Advertising Standards' mid-year Complaints report. The "Shopping Cart" commercial was found to violate the safety clause of the Code, because it portrayed a disregard for public safety. The Labatt Ice commercial violated the Gender Guidelines, because it portrayed a woman changing in the back seat of a cab while the driver watched before cancelling the fare. Labatt agreed to revise the advertisement, so there was no reference to the fare.

Kelly promises 'fair' Molson review

Article Abstract:

Molson Breweries of Canada Ltd's advertising account for its Export and Miller brands of beer is being contested by no less than 20 advertising agencies. The Toronto-based brewer is in the process of looking for another agency to handle the advertising for the brands, which has been MacLaren McCann's domain for the past 40 years. Richard Kelly, Molson's senior vice-president for strategic marketing, said he would discuss issues that Molson is facing with the agencies before the contract is finally awarded.
