Karstadt gets a makeover, a store at a time

Article Abstract:

KarstadtQuelle AG of Germany is planning makeovers of its entire line of department stores. The first store to be remodelled in Bochum, Germany cost 500,000 Euros (about $590,000) to recreate and sales are up seven percent from 2004. The remodelling efforts have been a success with 84 percent of customers saying they are happy with the changes.

Karstadt posts a narrower loss, sells real estate

Article Abstract:

KarstadtQuelle AG of Germany posted a narrow net loss for 2005 and sold 3.7 billion Euros ($4.45 billion) worth of real estate that payed down its debt. The real estate was sold to a joint venture with Whitehall, a division of Goldman Sachs Group Inc. KarstadtQuelle AG owns 90 department stores and 30 sporting goods stores across Germany.
