Keeper of the Crown jewels: Christopher Howes' passion for architecture informs his management of the 2 billion pounds sterling Crown Estate

Article Abstract:

Christopher Howes has been Second Commissioner and Chief Executive of the Crown Estate since 1989, which is currently worth more than 2 billion pounds sterling. The Crown Estate is expected to invest 400 million pounds sterling on building projects over the next 10 years and Howes wants to ensure that future projects are of the highest architectural quality.

Government planning process reforms face stiff opposition

Article Abstract:

The Green Paper lists of a number of reforms, which include the implementation of a two-level system of local and regional plans. A local development framework is expected to replace structure, local and unitary development plans. Those opposed to the Green Paper claim the government is bypassing county councils and that designs could be affected.

Paul Ormerod and Patrick Keiller use objective reasoning and economic analysis to handle cultural problems, such as a society's relationship with the land. Ormerod wants an immediate cessation of subsidy to the countryside, while Keiller believes that the idea of construction is complicated by the belief in a right of access.
