A survey of architectural practices in the UK found the median fee earnings for practices of 31 or more architects was 4,540,000 pounds sterling compared to practices of 11-30 architects with median fees of 1,208,000 pound sterling. The majority of the fees came from designing buildings whilst planning consultancy work accounted for 10% of the income. Total fees for 1998 amounted to 1.7 billion pounds sterling. Larger practices of over 11 architects accounted for 64% share of the market in 1998. The survey was carried out in Feb 1999 and included 400 architectural practices.
