Euromadi integrara la central de compras portuguesa Uniarme

Article Abstract:

In early September, 1998, Spanish-based central purchasing group Euromadi will set up a company in Portugal in order to absorb the largest retailer in the country, Uniarme, which has a yearly turnover of Pta 250,000mn. In 1999 Euromadi will take over supplier payment management and financial services and will absorb the company in the medium term. Euromadi has a 23.9% share of the market in Spain. In the long term, Euromadi plans to expand in Latin America, especially targeting Mercosur. In 1997 Euromadi managed business worth Pta 1,400,000mn and had 207 corporate members.

Optimus rompe el duopolio movil en Portugal

Article Abstract:

A third mobile phone operator has begun activity in Portugal under the name Optimus. Partners in the Optimus consortium are the Sonae group, France Telecom and EDP electricity company of Portugal. The consortium hopes to turn a profit in three years after investments of Esc 130,000mn until the year 2001. The two other operators in the mobile phone market in Portugal are Telecel (controlled by AirTouch of the US) and TMN ( part of the Portugal Telecom group).
