According to the president of Spanish telecoms operator Telefonica, during a meeting with a group of investors, the group's two Brazilian operators Tele Sudeste Celular (mobile servie in Rio) and Telesp Participacoes (fixed telephony in Sao Paulo) will absorb approximately 80% of the US$ 12,000mn which Telefonica plans to invest in network construction and improved service over the next ten years. Around US$ 11,000mn will be invested in Telesp. The president of Telefonica also reported that studies regarding a merger between the two mobile operators in Bahia and Rio, as well as plans to pull out of CRT.

Spanish hardware and software wholesale distributor Memory Set, based in Zaragoza, is predicting it could reach a turnover in 1998 of Pta 21,000mn, up 45% on 1997, with the held of US company CHS Electronics which acquired the Spanish company in early July, 1998. Memory Set distributes up to 100 different brand names and after obtaining Pta 14,513mn in turnover in 1997, now claims it is ready to expand overseas with the help of CHS Electronics.
