Limits on the analytic hierarchy process from its consistency index

Article Abstract:

The bounded nine-point scale of the analytical hierarchy process suffers from large inconsistency values particularly in large matrices and even in cases providing only three alternatives. Consistency limitations for the scale has determined that the scale is applicable to the three- and four-alternative problem when their calculated minima average less than the 'strongly favored' value of the next competitor. When more than four alternatives are used, the scale is incompatible with the eigenvector method except in special cases.

The Analytic Hierarchy Process in an uncertain environment: a simulation approach

Article Abstract:

Priorities within the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) are difficult to synchronize in cases where relationships between several entities cannot be explicitly described in terms of a particular criterion. A technique for determining the expected rank and the expected weight of all alternatives is necessary. Simulation is the best approach for deriving the expected measures.

A statistical approach to the analytic hierarchy process with interval judgments. (I). Distributions in feasible regions

Article Abstract:

A statistical approach developed to the analysis of interval judgments in the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is both effective and rewarding. The mean of the distribution may be employed as a measurement of the ranking of the choices and other quantities of interest, such as probabilities and marginal distributions for the weights, may be quantified.
