Article Abstract:

Simula founder and head Stan Desjardins believes that his product designs can significantly improve survivability in some helicopter accidents. Simula offers both state-of-the-art helicopter seats and cockpit mounted air-bag restraint systems controls. Simula controls a major part of the market for these products and has attracted the military's interest in its equipment. However, Desjardin fears that the continuing decline of R and D budgets for military helicopters will eventually compromise the survivability requirements for these aircraft.

PVS the nuts and bolts

Article Abstract:

Team Apache Systems Pres Dick Williams and Business Director Jeff Wishnik discussed the concept of prime vendor support (PVS), a process which transfers the responsibility for spares support and reliability from the Army to the contractor. Williams said PVS started with the recognition that Apaches have high operation costs. They started to apply the commercial support concept of velocity which cut the time needed to wait for parts. PVS is basically a better management system which improves the re-provision of parts.

Double whammy

Article Abstract:

The US Army is looking into the possibility of combining the sensor capabilities of the AN/ALQ-212 and the AN/ALQ-211 under the integrated situation awareness and targeting (ISAT) electronic warfare network. The ISAT system is not expected to offer enough protection for close-range hyper-velocity missiles, considered the primary vulnerability of present military helicopters. But it is expected to offer enough long-range protection as well as provide an intelligence net around each individual helicopter.
