Low-Budget Travelers Push Sunny Majorcans Beyond the Pale

Article Abstract:

Many locals on Palma de Majorca are fed up with European tourists who spend too little money to justify their negative impact on the island's overstressed infrastructure, including overdevelopment and pollution. A coalition elected in the summer of 1999 is proposing measures such as a tax on the tourists and a raise on water rates during the holiday season.

Barcelo raises stake in First Choice
