MRCB-led group to build Kuala Lumpur rail hub

Article Abstract:

The Malaysian government has awarded a railway terminal construction contract to a consortium headed by Malaysian Resources Corp. Bhd. Under the terms of their agreement, the consortium will build the $198.8 million terminal and turn it over to the state-owned rail carrier, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd., upon its completion in 1998. In return, the consortium will get development rights to 55-acres of government land around the new terminal.

MUI's acquisition of Pengkalen stake spurs takeover talk

Article Abstract:

Malayan United Industries Bhd.'s (MUI) recent acquisition of 31% of Pengkalen Holdings Bhd. has made it the second-largest shareholder in the company. The transaction has also given rise to speculation about a possible takeover attempt. MUI officials have stressed that the acquisition was made openly and that it was intended for investment purposes. However, informed sources stated that MUI's intentions were predatory.

Prajogo revives takeover bid for CASH as part of plan to build timber empire

Article Abstract:

Indonesian businessman Prajogo Pangestu is bent on acquiring Malaysia-based Construction and Supplies House Bhd. even as he failed to do so the first time he submitted his proposal in 1994. Prajogo heads the Barito Group and if he finally succeeds in buying the financially troubled building supplies firm, he will be enjoying a big market share in the timber industry in Southeast Asia.
