MacLaren cashes in on family ties

Article Abstract:

MacLaren McCann, an advertsing agency based in Toronto, Ontario, has picked up an estimated $36.3 million in new billings from Jan to Mar 2001 largely from clients realigning their advertising accounts with is New York, NY-based parent company, McCann-Erickson Worldgroup, or the holding company that owns it, which is the Interpublic Groups of Companies Inc. In Marc 2001, MacLaren was ahnded Microsoft's $25-million account after the software company decided to consolidate its ad spending with McCann Erickson. Similarly, Coca-Cola's decision to realign its global ad business with Interpublic in late Mar 2001 saw MacLaren pick up an additional $8.3 million in billings.

Restoring Firestone a real challenge

Article Abstract:

Toronto ad agency Griffin Bacal Volny (GBV) has won Bridgestone/Firestone Canada's C$4 million advertising account but the contract could be more of a burden than a blessing given Firestone's shattered public image. GBV is faced with the daunting task of restoring consumer confidence in Firestone in the aftermath of its highly-publicized tire recall. GBV Pres Peter Volny said there are certainly certain challenges involved in reestablishing the Firestone brand on the minds of Canadian consumers.
