Article Abstract:

The hotel industry in Italy has traditionally been extremely fragmented, with family-run businesses dominating the market. This situation has made hotel chains in Italy smaller and fewer in number compared to hotel operations in other European territories. The principal customers of hotel chains in the country remained to be business customers. Italy's hotel industry during the last few years also saw the entry of foreign hotel brand such as Sheraton, which purchased Italy's Ciga, and Forte, which acquired Hotel Agip.
