Israel twists and turns

Article Abstract:

Twelve Israeli politicians in the coalition government have pledged to secede if Israel agrees to withdraw from part of the West Bank in negotiations with Palestinians in the US in Oct 1998. The conference is still likely to achieve some progress, though a full agreement is unlikely. Ariel Shannon has been appointed Israeli foreign minister prior to the negotiations. He pledged to the cabinet on Oct 13 1998 that he would vote against any agreement made at the conference, in which he is to participate.
