Environmental management systems: empirical evidence and further perspectives

Article Abstract:

Research into the use of environmental management systems (EMS) has found more firms need to implement EMS in order to be fully able to judge its value in areas, such as cutting harmful emissions. Some companies have chosen to implement EMS to ensure they have followed relevant environmental legislation whilst others have seen the use of EMS as helpful in their business. Firms in developing countries have seen demands for EMS certification as a strategy, by the developed countries, to reduce competition. Firms which had introduced EMS had found costs were reduced.

Making cross-cultural research relevant to European corporate integration: old problem - new approach

Article Abstract:

A cross cultural study looking into the different attitudes and values of managers in France, Spain, the UK, Germany and Italy found the way the managers worked and their expectations differed. Multi-national firms have to be much more ready to consider different cultural values and areas of possible conflict between management styles. The increasing number of mergers can lead to whole foreign organisations being brought together rather than just employing a few foreign workers. Over 800 managers in 60 firms and from five European countries took part in the study.
