Manufacturing brick specials

Article Abstract:

Special bricks are an important part of most manufacturers' work although they account for only five percent of the value of facing bricks sold in the UK. The appearance of bricks is determined by the type of clay used and the method of manufacture, particularly the firing. International brickmaking company, Redland makes specials at all its 17 UK plants. Ibstock, a traditional family run manufacturer is the UK's largest maker of specials while craft brickmaker, W T Lamb makes hand made products for specialist work.

Fire-protecting steel off site

Article Abstract:

Enob Treatments, a steel protection specialist, has opened an automated plant for the offsite coating of steel. The new site, in Scunthorpe, UK, can handle some 300 t/w of steel. Coating steel offsite can speed up the construction process by some three weeks and has many environmental benefits. Steelwork is often specified by architects, but fire protection using intumescent coating on-site can be time-consuming, expensive and technically difficult.
