Malaysia attracts hot money

Article Abstract:

The rise of short-term investors in Malaysia has fuelled the growth of the country's stock market. Despite efforts by the government to promote long-term, fundamentals-based approach to investing, mutual funds have continued to draw the interest of foreign investors due to their growth potential. The rally in short-term stocks was further bolstered by the emergence of various momentum players who focused primarily on generating instant cash.

Pica's volatile niche keeps potential investors at bay

Private Investment Company for Asia (Pica) has listed itself at the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange on Oct. 1996. The company boasts of a strong profit record, registering a compounded growth rate of 26% since 1991. Despite its strong profit performance, however, some analysts remain skeptic about Pica's chances of attracting substantial investors, arguing that other factors contribute to a stock's success.
