Maori's on-your-face approach makes powerful political, cultural statements

Article Abstract:

New Zealand's indigenous Maori people are reviving 'moko' to assert their rights and fight racism. 'Moko' are facial, torso and leg tattoos, which were once used by Maoris to convey power, fearsomeness and social status. The practice of having 'moko' was abandoned by the Maoris when New Zealand's British government placed restrictions on Maori 'tohunga' or priests in 1863. However, more Maoris are having tattoos to promote the Maori heritage.

Government pushes the textile industry to restructure

Article Abstract:

China has requested for a fourth joint communique with the US, which the latter opposes. The two countries have already held three earlier communiques, all of which served as the basis for China-US relations. China's request for a fourth communique is considered by US diplomats as part of China's plan to pressure the US to maintain unofficial ties with Taiwan.
