Marseille seeks calm by blurring Church-State line

Article Abstract:

French Muslims in Marseille, France have not participated in the country-wide rioting. However the peace is on edge, as this Muslim community experiences the same underemployment and poor conditions of other French Muslim communities. The difference is in the funding of French Muslim charitable and religious associations as instituted by Mayor Jean-Claude Gaudin that defuses tension and encourages dialogue with the ethnic population.
