Merger will twin pizza and donuts

Article Abstract:

Afton Food Group Ltd of Burlington, Ontario, will acquire Thunder Bay, Ontario-based Robin's Foods Inc. In merging the chains, Afton plans to twin its 241 Pizza with Robin's Donuts' 245 locations. The plan is designed to attract customers from 5:00 am-5:00 pm and until midnight as well as those asking for home delivery. Also, the two brands compliment each other geographically, with Robin's strong presence in Northern Ontario and Western Canada and Afton's prominence in central Ontario.

Signature Vacations set to take off

Article Abstract:

Signature Vacations, headquartered in Toronto, Canada, in mid-Feb 2001 agreed to acquire 18 leisure travel agency offices from Markham-based Amex Canada. Amex Canada will continue to operate the offices under the American Express Travel brand. Pending regulatory approval, the agreement is scheduled to be completed in mid-March. The agreement provides Signature with additional growth opportunities and enables it to target different types of travelers.

Fast-foodies veg out on veggie fare

Article Abstract:

Fastfood hamburger chains are introducing vegetarian sandwiches and burgers to appeal to those consumers who prefer alternative fares to their usual food offering. Harvey's Restaurants has launched its Veggieburger in fall 1998 in line with its plan to offer healthier foods. Similarly, Burger King Restaurants has also launched its Veggie Burger as a replacement to its Veggie Whopper sandwhich.
