Microsoft interactive chief resigns

Article Abstract:

Microsoft Corp. executive Pete Higgins resigned as the head of the company's interactive-media group. Higgins' departure comes at a time when Microsoft's challenge to America Online Inc. and Yahoo! Inc. for the dominant position on the World Wide Web received mixed results. Microsoft President Steve Ballmer will temporarily oversee the duties left by the 40-year-old Higgins, who has been with the company for the past 15 years. Higgins' resignation also reflects Microsoft's problem of keeping veteran employees, who have benefited from Microsoft's stock-option program.
